Notably, the number of cybersecurity-related patent applications in the medical industry was 493 in Q3 2024, versus 695 in the prior quarter.
The top five companies accounted for 12% of patenting activity
³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏÍø of patenting activity by companies shows that Samsung Electronics filed the most cybersecurity patents within the medical industry in Q3 2024. The company filed 16 cybersecurity-related patents in the quarter, compared with 16 in the previous quarter. It was followed by I-Sens with 13 cybersecurity patent filings, DexCom (12 filings), and Johnson & Johnson (8 filings) in Q3 2024.
Patenting activity was driven by the US with a 40% share of total patent filings
The largest share of cybersecurity related patent filings in the medical industry in Q3 2024 was in the US with 40%, followed by China (20%) and Japan (6%). The share represented by the US was 6% higher than the 34% share it accounted for in Q2 2024.
