Neusoft Medical Systems has launched its NeuViz P10 photon-counting CT (PCCT) system in China, targeting advanced medical imaging applications.

This launch follows approval from China’s National Medical Products Administration (NMPA), marking it as the first photon-counting CT system approved in the country.

NeuViz P10 is also the first wide-body system in the world that features an 8cm detector, said Neusoft Medical Systems, a China-based provider of medical imaging solutions.

In contrast to conventional CT scanners, the NeuViz P10 employs a cadmium zinc telluride (CZT) detector to directly convert X-ray photons into digital signals. This approach aims to eliminate the intermediary light conversion process.

According to Neusoft Medical Systems, this direct conversion method enhances image clarity, reduces patient radiation exposure, and improves the differentiation between various tissue types.

The company said that these advancements offer clearer visualisation of small blood vessels in cardiac assessments and enable earlier tumour detection. They also enhance neurological diagnosis accuracy and allow safer lung examinations with reduced radiation levels.

Neusoft Medical Systems stated that this improved resolution supports medical professionals in identifying diseases at earlier stages, potentially leading to more effective treatments and better patient outcomes.

Neusoft Medical Systems CEO Patrick Wu said: “The approval of NeuViz P10 is a milestone for China’s medical imaging industry and for global CT innovation.

“This technology empowers radiologists with clearer images at lower doses, giving patients earlier and more accurate answers while delivering maximum clinical value for public health.”

The NeuViz P10 system integrates four platforms, namely NeuPhoton Counting, Photon Supersonic, Photon Intelligence, and Photon Research. Together, these platforms aim to provide faster scans, improved safety in imaging procedures, intelligent workflow support, and expanded opportunities for clinical research.

Late last year, Neusoft Medical Systems showcased its AI-powered imaging solutions at the Radiological Society of North America RSNA 2024 conference in Chicago.

Notable innovations included the NeuViz Epoch+ CT with its 512-slice capability and AI-driven ClearInfinity reconstruction for high-resolution imaging at low doses.

Other technologies presented included the NeuMR Universal, the first dual-energy 3.0T MRI with a dual-energy gradient system, and the NeuAngio-CT Plus, which offers integrated solutions for interventional procedures. In addition, the NeuEra PET/CT features a fully digitised design capable of rapid scans.
